How Finding My Personal Style Led Me to Personal Styling

For a long time, my life was all about work and family. I built a career in digital and retail innovation, juggling deadlines and raising two children. Like so many women, I poured myself into everything and everyone else and somewhere in the middle of it all, I lost sight of myself, my wellbeing and also my style. It's not uncommon for women to feel this way, especially as you get a little older and often the list of people relying on you seems to grow. I was moving through the motions but rarely asked myself what I truly wanted for me.

One of the things I’d always loved was fashion and style. But as life got busier, that part of me just faded into the background. I realised I didn’t really feel like myself when I looked in the mirror. I was dressing “ok,” but it wasn’t how I wanted to present myself to the world. That spark of feeling truly like me was missing, and the days where I felt good about how I looked became fewer and fewer.

I remember those mornings clearly: standing in front of a wardrobe packed full of clothes and feeling like I had absolutely nothing to wear. I didn’t know how to dress my changed body after having two children or what really worked for me. I think a lot of us know that feeling, right? I was buying pieces I thought I should have, or things that looked great on someone else, but when I put them on, they just didn’t feel like me and sometimes I ended up feeling worse about myself. So I’d fall back on the same safe outfits over and over, just to get through the day. It wasn’t just about clothes, it left me feeling stuck and frustrated before my day had even begun.

Then everything changed when the pandemic hit. Like so many people, I worked non-stop while also trying to homeschool two children. The collision of my two worlds made me rethink my work–life balance and really question what I was doing and who I was doing it for. I realised my personal goals had shifted. I wanted something different, something that felt more like me. That’s when I decided to leave my job and put my energy into something I loved: personal styling. It was a leap of faith, but I trusted things would work out for the best.

The journey started with my own wardrobe, taking insight and tips from online resources and stylists. I pared things down, stopped impulse shopping, and began investing in great outfit-making basics, figuring out what really worked for me. Before long, friends and family started noticing and commenting on how I looked. Getting dressed started to feel easy again, mornings became calmer, I felt more confident, and I showed up as the best version of myself. It was such a confidence boost and made me realise how much I enjoyed it, not just for myself, but as something I could do for others.

So I retrained as a personal stylist, started styling friends and family, and then launched my styling business helping women find their personal style.

Now, when I work with women, I truly understand their world because I’ve walked that same path. I know what it’s like to juggle a million responsibilities and feel like your own sense of self and style has been put on the back burner. Many women try to find their way back, but in a world constantly feeding us new trends and ‘must-have’ items, it’s harder than ever to distinguish what you truly like from what you’re told you should like.

I remember feeling exactly that way, scrolling online or walking into shops and thinking I needed to buy what everyone else was wearing, rather than what really suited me or reflected my lifestyle and personal style. And that’s exactly why I love helping women find their way back to feeling amazing in their clothes. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about fashion, it’s about feeling like yourself again.

My own story showed me just how powerful that shift can be and now I get to guide other women through the same transformation.

If any of this resonates with you, if you’re feeling like you don’t know where to start, I’d love to help. Feel free to comment, book an online consultation, and let’s find your style together.
